valorisation of the ceramic heritage

Project for the valorisation of the ceramic heritage

Project for the valorisation of the ceramic heritage

« Silhouettes fragmentées » 2013-2014

The project "Silhouettes fragmentées" is an idea of the ceramist Angela Campanile.

A project for the realization of a collective work, a ceramic wall installation.

In other words, a majolica mural to embellish the walls of the maison de quartier of Grette and Butte de Besançon.

Inspired by the ceramic and Roman art collections of the Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology in Besançon.

It is therefore a project on the enhancement of the ceramic heritage of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region (France).

Made with the maison de quartier of Grette and Butte - Besançon.

It was created in collaboration with the inhabitants of the Grette and Butte districts, and the Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology of Besançon.

On the other hand, the aim is to create a link between the actors of the project: the museum and the inhabitants of the neighbourhoods, but especially with the Maison de Quartier and the city of Besançon.

The most important phase, which illuminates this participatory project, is certainly the research and discoveries in the museum's archives.

The research on the ceramic heritage of Besançon began with Roman art and then came to find hidden treasures.

But the museum's archive is well stocked with ceramics from all cultures of the world.

And the collection of Jean Louis Eugène Willemot (1807-1889) represents the treasure that inspired this project on the valorisation of ceramic heritage.

Ceramic heritage, and "human" heritage.

To clarify the objective of the project... it was to create a common thread between the valorisation of the ceramic heritage and the "human" heritage.

In other words, the "human" heritage is represented by the different ethnic groups of the districts of Grette and Butte.

The sihouettes represent the ethnic groups.

They are made from the photos of the participants in the projects.

But their decorations also refer to ethnic groups, because they are inspired by ceramics from all cultures of the world, the Willemont collection.

Activities with ceramics

First, the activities with ceramics have been organized for all kinds of audiences.

For example: children, teenagers and adults

Secondly, courses were held to create the silhouettes and decorative ceramic modules.

Then they were produced in clay and decorated in relief with Roman elements.

In addition, Angela Campanile made the enamelling and decorations in majolica by hand.

Subsequently, the collective ceramic works were installed on the walls of the portico of the maison de Quartier, using the mosaic technique by Angela Campanile with the help of Hase Kurtovic.
